In this sweet young adult romance, Nick and Cynthia are selected to join a college group to spend time in Rome on a study grant. They have been best friends for years, very careful not to step over the boundaries of friendship because they know that by doing so, they will lose something very valuable. Almost as soon as they are out of their comfort zone, tragedy strikes at home and Cynthia is caught in the emotional squeeze of having to decide what to do. The decision she has to make is definitely of the "lose/lose" category, and regardless of what she decides, there will be recriminations and regrets. Cynthia's experiences in Rome mirrored my own at that stage of my life, and I fondly recalled all the places she visited, the new experiences with food and new friends, the hurt feelings when the first disagreements breaks out between travel companions, watching out for one another and being worried when someone went missing. Most of all I remember the abject misery when homesickness struck with a vengeance, only to dissipate in the next new sight or experience. A well written, coming of age book, describing the turmoil of youth and the difficulties breaking out of the chrysalis in order to become a beautiful butterfly.Product details

Though it started off slow I really enjoyed this book. It gave me a beautiful picture of Italy and Nick and Cynthia's relationship kept me turning the page.
